River Valley Express lyrics
The Northern Rivers has no trains…my home is right next to the railway line which the train route took through the Byron Shire. Co-written with Ray Essery, (the Mullumbimby Bloke) a born and bred local, we traced the original train route to paint a picture of the Northern Rivers life, how it was in the past, and how it might be again, should we get our trains back …we’re dreaming!

Baby We're Really In Love lyrics
Hank Williams’ songs are so cool and groovy, especially when he’s in a sweet mood like this one. I’ve had it on my list for a while. I love his passionate declarations in the lyrics, and the honky western swing treatment really gets me going. You’ve got to love a man like that.

The Italian Cowgirl lyrics
Funny man, Ray Essery, pitched the original idea of an Italian cowgirl to me in bush verse. A few re-writes later, after tapping into my inner Italian gypsy cowgirl memories, I uncovered the main reason why I never became famous …. there was no pizza or pasta in the outback. Italians and their food huh, go figure!

Rainbird Yodel lyrics
Having been mostly an inland girl, I had not experienced a “rainy season” until I got to the Northern Rivers. The same thing happened every time a wet season came round, birds of all varieties land on the back deck for shelter & yodel and sing away competing with each other, and often harmonizing together, making a cacophony of sounds. It’s a glorious experience and happens the world over.

Peel Street Buskers Lament lyrics
A Sarah Carroll/Andrew Hull song I found on The Junes CD. Tamworth was my home from 1975 and I’ve survived many laps of Peel Street at festival time every year since then. Watching the rise and rise of buskers’ culture over the years, this quirky tale of unrequited love on Peel Street delighted me and made me smile. I had to do it.

Down The Line lyrics
Country and Mediterranean….yay! I’ve been a fan of tex- mex music all my life, it must be the Latino blood, or something (you think?) therefore it seemed a natural progression for me to explore that Latin sound in my own songs. As we travel through life, all sorts of things happen to us all & sometimes you get to the point of walking away from an unhealthy situation for a better life waiting on down the line.

My Baby's Love (Jessie's Song) lyrics
One week after winning two 2008 NSW Gold Medallions for Songwriter of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, I found myself in Tweed Hospital with a burst appendix (at my age!!!). I was one very sick girl! In the middle of a really bad night I had my little transistor radio on, when a song by my daughter Jessie came on. Jessie is a gospel singer and musical director of her own church in Melbourne and had only just released her new single to radio ABC. What are the chances of that happening? Sent from up above, methinks, a powerful experience I will never forget.

Golden Butterflies lyrics
A friend told me years ago, “I had a dream & you were covered, completely surrounded by golden butterflies, everywhere”. I thought that a bit weird at the time & never gave it more thought, until years later pruning in my garden, blow me down, clouds of gold butterflies totally inundated me & followed me as I pottered round. This went on for two weeks or so, and it left me with a wondering what it could all possibly mean? I started the song and found out later that the gold butterfly is the symbol of the Suicide Prevention Organization.

The Captain and the Gypsy lyrics
This is a story of meeting of my husband when I had not long moved to the Northern Rivers from Tamworth. It is also a universal story of people from totally different backgrounds, cultures and experiences, coming together, finding the common ground they need to make their relationships work. As we all know, relationships are not easy!

Jeopardy lyrics
You can’t take the rock’n’roll out of a girl, can you! I’m a ‘60s baby boomer & LOVE this style of retro R & R. Jean Shepherd was a huge star in her day, in both country music/rockabilly/rock and roll, a great all-rounder. She’s my kinda gal!

Play The Song lyrics
I feel for the young CM artists coming through today, especially, as the song says, style restrictions are imposed on them by certain sectors in the industry, that you must fit in a country music box, before they can become “successful”. This song speaks the truth and to me, thanks Rory & Joey.

Honky Tonk Moon lyrics
Randy Travis is one of my all-time favourite singers. When it comes to great singers, I am a tone- junkie. Randy has such an exquisite voice and to record this one was a joy. This is a song close to my heart and paints a picture of where I am in my life, blessed with contentment, a beautiful big Italian family, the dearest of friends of many years standing, and to still sing …it doesn’t get any better than that. Amen

La Paloma lyrics
My family migrated to Australia when I was 4 years old so my Italian language skills are scratchy to say the least, but when it comes to music, it is another matter. I am a cross-culture kid, with one foot in the western popular music of my generation and the other in a European culture. The sound of the piano accordion has always moved me profoundly, my father and uncles played Italian folk songs on their huge accordions, and my aunt Connie sang with such a passion, it inspired me to remember the sounds of those memories & find my own expression of my past. Thank you to all who encouraged me.
